Hệ điều hành chính của DA-820 là dựa trên lntel quad-core i7-3612QE CPU và chipset QM77. DA-820 hỗ trợ tiêu chuẩn x86, 2 cổng VGA, 6 cổng USB, 4 cổng LAN gigabit và 2 cổng serial 3-trong-1 RS-232/422/485. Nó cũng được trang bị với giao diện 4 ổ SATA và hỗ trợ tính năng RAID 0/1/5/10. DA-820 được thiết kế đặc biệt cho các ứng dụng trạm biến áp yêu cầu đồng bộ hóa thời gian chính xác và tuân thủ các tiêu chuẩn IEC 61850-3. Thiết kế linh hoạt giúp DA-820 phù hợp với SCADA cục bộ, giám sát môi trường, giám sát video, chuyển đổi giao thức và các ứng dụng dự phòng PRP/HSR. DA-820 tuân thủ tiêu chuẩn IEC 60255 cho phép bảo vệ các rơ le điện trong trạm biến áp thông minh. IEC 600255 là một trong những tiêu chuẩn được sử dụng rộng rãi nhất để thử nghiệm rơ le và bảo vệ thiết bị. Tuân thủ tiêu chuẩn đảm bảo DA-820 sẽ hoạt động liên tục và đáng tin cậy với các IED (intelligent electronic devices) như một phần của hệ thống tự động hóa trạm biến áp.
Vỏ ngoài được thiết kế tiêu chuẩn 3U, kích thước 19-inch, vỏ chắc chắn được gắn vào tủ rack. Thiết kế rack-mount cung cấp bảo vệ cứng vững chắc cho các ứng dụng môi trường công nghiệp.

Using MMS and SNMP to Integrate IT Management for Substation Automation
The devices that electrical substation automation systems are built from depend on highly precise, time-critical communications. Substation thus often use highly specialized monitoring systems to tackle this problem, but can approach it using different technologies. The most up-to-date, “smart” substations use the Manufacturing Messaging Specification (MMS) for communications among IEC 61850 intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), allowing SCADA to monitor and control IED states as well as process switchgear and transformer data directly.
